hello! i've released new music of.. questionable quality :)
you can stream it using this link here: https://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/1401197 (or here if you prefer the fancy streaming services over the newgrounds audio player)
for the third year in a row, i decided to participate in Novatone's 'obscure genre challenge' where producers are challenged to make a full track out of their obscure genre of choice within two months. the genres are given in a list and the catch is that once you select a genre, nobody else can take it and produce a track of that genre. initially i decided to select 'nintendocore', a rock-adjacent genre with heavy influence from the sounds and aesthetics from the nintendo systems of the 2000's. it's right up my alley and i thought this would be a wonderful opportunity to make something good.
however, about a week before the deadline, i had nothing to show. not even an idea jotted down or a doodle worth turning into a full song. i went to the genre list to give up my precious nintendocore but then... i saw it. "drift phonk" was still available, fresh for the taking. it's over-the-top beats, distorted mix, and iconic cowbells... utilized by nobody! if i wasn't going to be able to make anything good for the challenge, then i'll make something awful. immediately i got to work and this project (which i titled 'go stupid' because of it's nature) took shape.
by the time i was done i had learned a lesson that i think has many applications even outside of music: if you can't make something good, or something that holds up to your standards, make it anyway, and make it as bad as possible! only then will it wrap around and become something you're proud of, even if the premise is funny.
sorry for the long writeup but enjoy my week-long labor of love :D
